Wobbel Original - Wool Felt Wallaby
Is it a balance board, a swing, a bridge, a shop, a hut, a step, a racetrack, a lounge seat, or an elephants back? It’s all of that and more! Wobbel boards invite movement and play indoors; stimulate creativity and imagination; encourage strength, balance and poise; and have practical uses too. Children instinctively know what the possibilities are and keep discovering new ways to play with the Wobbel.
Wobbel is beautiful and robust redesign of a traditional Steiner (Waldorf) balance board. Children of all ages love to rock, whether it be standing up, sitting or lying down. Rocking builds strength and a sense of balance and confidence; it engages both hemispheres of the brain, and it can also be calming and therapeutic. Wobbel is for all ages and grows with our child – a young child can crawl into it and gently rock back and forth, while older children will build their gross motor skills. Wobbel is great for playing, interacting and getting fit together! A Wobbel is more than that though! Children will use the Wobbel in all sorts of ways in imaginary play, as a bridge for animals and vehicles, a base for building, or even a roof or home for toys. In practical ways around the home, the Wobbel will become a seat or a step.
The felted base is recommended if you intend to use your Wobbel on any surface other than carpet or a rug. The felt base will protect your floors and dampen the sound. It also adds a non-slippery and softer surface when the Wobbel is being used as a seat or step.
Always let children play under adult supervision. Help children to get used to the Wobbel and assist them as needed. Teach your child to never hold the edges, and to be aware of fingers and toes getting caught under the board. Provide at least 2 meters of free space (also to other children) around the Wobbel and place on a flat, horizontal surface. Barefoot and non-slip shoes prevent slipping. Wobbel is designed for indoor play; it may be used outdoors but this will increase wear and tear to the board and the felt base.
Why does a Wobbel cost what it costs?
Wobbel have not compromised on quality and only use the best materials. Therefore it is a beautiful product, it's very durable and can be passed on to other children or sold second hand. It is not a unilateral toy and children (and adults) do not get bored, because they constantly see new opportunities. The Wobbel grows with the family.
Producing a Wobbel is a complex process and Wobbel has sourced from the best wood bending factory in Europe. The Wobbel is mostly made of pressed sustainable European FSC beech wood, treated with water based paints and varnishes.
What is the difference between wool felt and pressed felt?
Our wool felt is made from the best available natural felt. It is colored by nature and therefore doens't contain nasty chemicals. It is highly resistant to abrasion, protects floors and Wobbels and has good sound deadening. The risk of pieces coming loose like with cork is practically zero. It feels warm and comfortable to the touch, and is available in beautiful colors.
Our pressed felt mainly consists of recycled PET bottles. Just like the wool felt, it reduces noise, prevents scratches on the floor and on the Wobbel. The soft, felt look means an extra invitation to the users. This felt is easier to clean. That makes the pressed felt suitable for intensive use. The available colors of pressed felt form a beautiful and unique contrast with the wood.
Choosing the right Wobbel for your flooring.
For hard floors like laminate, wood, stone, tile, linoleum and marmoleum we advise felt.
This will protect the Wobbel, the floor and reduces noise. With sensitive or scratch sensitive flooring it is advisable to use a rug or mat anyway, irrespective of whether felt or cork is unerneath the Wobbel. Unprotected parts can cause damage to the floor or the Wobbel.
We have no experience with vinyl flooring, but to be safe choose felt.
If you have carpet or a large rug in the house, you can choose a bare Wobbel.
The Wobbel may be damaged by the use on hard and / or irregular surfaces. In particular, inter alia, floor tiles. If there is no felt at the bottom, we recommend using a rug or mat to protect the Wobbel, the floor and your ears. With the convex side up (ᴖ) the felt provides no protection and it is advisable to use a rug or mat under the Wobbel. By shifting the Wobbel with the convex side up (ᴖ) on such floors can cause damage to the sides of the Wobbel.
